Co-Chief Executive Officer & General Counsel, Chief Compliance Officer


Christina Markell-Balleza is Co-Chief Executive Officer and General Counsel of South Texas Money Management. With the management team, she is responsible for various facets of the business. Ms. Markell-Balleza is responsible for all legal matters of the firm and supervises the firm's compliance program. In addition, Ms. Markell-Balleza serves on the firm's management team and the Wealth Management Platform investment committee. She joined the firm in September 2011.

Prior to joining the firm, Ms. Markell-Balleza worked in the investment funds and business planning practices of Haynes and Boone, LLP in Dallas for eight years. Her experience includes representing investment advisers with respect to organizational matters, registration, securities and regulatory issues, com­­pliance, fund formation, and investor negotiations.

Ms. Markell-Balleza has served on a number of community and non-profit boards including the Landa Gardens Conservancy, the United Way of Metropolitan Dallas Young Leaders Steering Committee, the Board of Directors of the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul of Metropolitan Dallas, Texas Wall Street Women's Angel Board, and the Board of Directors of the Free Trade Alliance. She currently serves as Vice-Chair of the board of St. PJ’s Children’s Home and the Board of Directors of the Association of Corporate Counsel, South Central Texas.

Ms. Markell-Balleza received a Juris Doctorate with Honors from the University of Texas at Austin and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science, from the Honors Program, cum laude, from St. Mary's University. In 2012 she was selected to the San Antonio Business Journal’s “40 Under 40” List, and in 2017 was honored with a “C-Suite” Award, which recognizes outstanding CEOs and C-level executives.
